What is the password to open ITR V acknowledgement

In another post I already shared what is the password toopen 26AS in PDF format.In this post I’ll share how to open your ITR acknowledgement.

As ITR V is password protected you will have to enter a password in order to open and view ITR V.

The password to open the ITR V is your pan number and your date of birth.

Note:- You PAN no should in lower case and your date of birth should be in ddmmyyyy format. You should avoid “/” while entering your date of birth.

For example:- Let’s say your PAN is AAAPC0000F and your date of birth is 3^rd January 1986 then your password to open your ITR V will be “aaapc000f03011986” that is your pan no in lower case and your date of birth.

Also Note that ITR V provided by the Income Tax Department is in PDF format, so you will require a pdf viewer to open the file.

What to do with ITR V

ITR V is an acknowledgement provided by the income tax department. It serves as a proof of your income. Let’s say you want to avail a loan from bank in such a scenario you will be required to submit your ITR V.

Also note that you have to sign and post a copy of ITR V to income tax department in Bangalore within 120 days of filing your income tax return.

While sending the ITR V to Bangalore make sure that you don’t fold it and send it by regular post.
